Some of longest structures mankind is responsible for building are truly inspiring. We are not talking measurements in their thousands, we are talking about hundreds of thousands. Here is the list of top 10 longest walls in the world:

10. Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall, USA

Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is U.S. national memorial in Washington, D.C. The wall pays tribute to the brave members of the U.S. Armed Forces who fought in the Vietnam War and were killed or missing in action. This memorial wall was designed by Maya Lin constructed with two black granite engraved with 58,256 names of each soldier. It is the tenth longest wall of world with length of 150.4 m(493.5 ft).

Great Zimbabwe is a ruined city in Zimbabwe. Great Zimbabwe was the onetime capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe, but today this former mega-city lies in ruins. The construction of this wall started 11th century up to 15th century, believed to be built by early Lemba. Those ruins are, however, surrounded by towering walls, which stand as a formidable reminder of the might of this once great empire. It is the ninth longest wall of world with length of 244 m (800 ft).

Located in Jerusalem, the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall is a famous Jewish religious site. It was built by Herod the Great in 19BC, this ancient limestone barricade once formed part of an important Jewish temple, which was reduced to rubble by the Neo-Babylonian Empire in 586BC. It is the eighth longest wall of world with length of 488 m(1,601 ft).

Sacsayhuaman is located in the northern outskirts of Cusco, Peru, which was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Like many Inca constructions, the complex is made of large polished dry stone walls, with boulders carefully cut to fit together tightly without mortar. It is the seventh longest wall of world with length of 600 m(1,969 ft).

Supposedly the site of the Trojan War, one of the most important events in Greek Mythology, the legendary city of Troy was made famous in Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad. This wall withstood the famous 10 year siege of Troy. It is the sixth longest wall of world with length of 1,200 m(3,937 ft).

The Walls of Ston, a series of walls, are located in the Peljesac peninsula, southern Croatia.  Built in the 15th century, these walls connected two cities. It is second longest wall in Europe – after Hadrian’s – this ancient fortification was constructed to protect Dubrovnik and its nearby salt pans, which were the driving force behind the city’s economy. It is the fifth longest wall of world with length of 5,500 m(18,044 ft).

The Walls of Babylon, dating back to 575 BC, are in modern Iraq. Babylon was a major city in ancient Mesopotamia, situated about 85 km south of Baghdad was surrounded by these walls. It  was famously protected from invading armies by its eponymous walls, which were long considered to be impenetrable. It is the fourth longest wall of world with length of 65,000 m(213,255 ft).

The longest wall in Europe, this wall was built by the Romans to protect their colony Britannia from the tribes in Scotland. It was named after Roman Emperor Hadrian. There is a national path that follows the whole length of the wall. It is named as UNESCO’S world heritage site. It is the third longest wall of world with length of 117,482 m(385,440 ft).

The wall is located in Germany. This wall was constructed during the cold war in Berlin 1961 when the war was at its peak in Germany. It was destroyed but during the Soviet Union, was reconstructed back in 1989. It was built in the middle of Berlin by East Germany in order to stop East Berliners to escape to the west. Today it is one of the biggest tourists attractions. It is the second longest wall of world with length of 154,500 m(506,890 ft).

It was constructed under the China Emperor, Qin Shi Huang stretching 8,851.8 kilometers. It is the longest wall of world with length of 21,196,000 m(69,540,682 ft).
