This list contains the top 10 most polluted cities in the world by PM2.5 annual mean concentration measurement whose measurement is greater than or equal to the air quality guideline (AQG) of 10 as documented by the World Health Organization covering the period from 2008 to 2016.

10. Baoding, China

Baoding is a city in Hebei province, China. It is among 13 Chinese cities with a population of over 10 million, ranking seventh. Nearly 90 percent of China's big cities failed to meet air quality standards in 2014, but that was still an improvement on 2013 as the country's "war on pollution" began to take effect, the environment ministry said. Baoding city has one of China's biggest plants which manufacture blades used in wind turbine generators, catering mainly to the domestic market. Nevertheless Baoding is currently listed as the most polluted city in China.

9. Xingtai, China

As air pollution in China is at an all-time high, several Hebei cities are among one of the most polluted cities and has one of the worst air quality in China. According to a survey made by "Global voices China" in February 2013, 7 cities in Hebei including Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Handan, Langfang, Hengshui and Tangshan, are among China's 10 most polluted cities. Xingtai ranked 1st in the list and ranked 9th in the world and is referred to has the worst air quality in all Chinese cities.

8. Bamenda, Cameroon

Bamenda, also known as Abakwa and Mankon Town, is a city in northwestern Cameroon and capital of the Northwest Region. The city had a population of about 500,000 people, Bamenda is known for its cool climate and scenic hilly location. According to the World Health Organization, Bamenda is the most polluted city in Africa in terms of PM2.5 particulate matter and is ranked 8th in the word.

7. Raipur, India

Patna is the capital and largest city of the state of Bihar in India. It had an estimated population of 1.68 million in 2011, making it the 19th largest city in India. Pollution is a major concern in Patna. According to the CAG report, tabled in the Bihar Legislative Assembly in April 2015, respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM) level (PM-10) in Patna was 355, three-and-a-half times higher than the prescribed limit of 100 micro-gram per cubic metre, primarily due to high vehicular and industrial emissions and construction activities in the city. Jubail is a city in the Eastern province on the Persian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia. It is the host of the largest industrial city in the Middle East. Because of its rapid industrialization in the 1970s, it has a high amount of air pollution that's been noted since the 1980s. Al Jubail is ranked 5th in the list of most polluted cities in the world.

4. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Riyadh is the capital and most populous city of Saudi Arabia. The largest city in Saudi Arabia also clocks in as its most polluted, with 15 times what a healthy annual PM 2.5 should be. The city attributes the high pollution days in part to sulfur dioxide in the air, which predominantly comes from industrial activity.

Zabol is a city in and the capital of Zabol County, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran. Zabol lies on the border with Afghanistan. The Zabol area is well known for its "120-day wind", a highly persistent dust storm in the summer which blows from north to south. The disappearance in the 2000s of the nearby Hamoun wetlands has exacerbated the dusty conditions in Zabol, leading the World Health Organization to name Zabol the most polluted city in the world in 2016.
